I want

by Maya Redwood

I want to have laugh lines with smiling eyes.
I want people to celebrate wisdom that comes with age.
I want to scream “I love you!” to a stranger and not be called crazy.
I want to bottle manic moods and give it away for free.
I want to have six hands so I can write, play music, and paint simultaneously.
I want to be worth more alive than I am dead.
I want to dance with the elephants and share jokes with the eagles.
I want to drink in knowledge from the redwood trees.
I want to embrace the earth and heal all its wounds.
I want to always remember magical thinking.
I want to spread love as an airborne epidemic.
I want my grandchildren’s grandchildren to be proud of my name.

Foolish

by Maya Redwood

Delightful to have a crush at this age
Fun, foolish, invigorating
Whimsical fantasies entertain me
What would he do if….
I realize I am just another face, another paper to grade
I wonder if he’s aware of the fan club that’s accumulated
It makes me smile to hear others verbalize my thoughts
There is no jealously in my fun of foolishness
I agree he deserves the admiration
Compassion and knowledge are powerful aphrodisiacs
Poetry and laughter add fuel to the fire
May he always entice such stirring in the soul
May I always have the ability to be foolish
